T Third Back In Action
By Erin McMillan

The T Third Line train is set to resume service Monday, April 1st, and that's no April Fools’ joke!
After 10 weeks of bus substitution needed to allow for construction at the UCSF Mission Bay platform, the T Third will resume train service on Third Street from Embarcadero to Sunnydale.
We’ve been hard at work demolishing the inbound and outbound platforms, performing rail and utility work, and constructing a 320-foot platform that will have the capacity to hold approximately 700 customers at one time and serve four, two-car trains. This Muni Metro platform upgrade aims to improve public transit, access to and from Mission Bay as the neighborhood quickly builds more retail, housing and entertainment venues.
The SFMTA has been constructing a new center platform along 3rd Street to service both the inbound and outbound trains and greatly expand transit capacity for large crowds, in anticipation of the new Golden State Warriors’ arena.
*Please note, the platform at UCSF Mission Bay will be out of commission through April as construction on the platform continues. Stay tuned for an official opening date.
Check out the photos of our progress so far.

Woman's History Month
By Keli Dailey
As we wrap up Woman's History Month, we would like to mention several other heroes that helped shape the face of transportation in our City.
Almost a hundred years earlier than Rosa Parks’ bold action in Alabama, right here in San Francisco, a young African-American woman named Charlotte Brown fought public segregation in transit.

Brown wanted to ride one of the Omnibus Railroad Company’s horse-drawn streetcars (owned by a private company that preceded the public system). But because of her race, she was not allowed onboard. Brown took the company to court—twice—and won.
Also in 1860s San Francisco, noted African-American entrepreneur Mary Ellen Pleasant had the same experience. She was refused a ride on a streetcar operated by a private company. She also challenged streetcar segregation and took her case successfully all the way to the California Supreme Court.

These two women helped to change California history, and we’re still focused on providing equitable service in the city—see our Muni Service Equity Strategy.
And when we talk about notable women in San Francisco transit history, we also think of Maya Angelou. Hailed as San Francisco’s first black female streetcar conductor, Angelou wrote in her autobiography “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” about overcoming racism and sexism to get a job with Muni at the age of 16.

To honor these three local heroes, we invite you to join us in celebrating their local contributions to equity and inclusion. We’re celebrating these three San Francisco transit pioneers with a Muni campaign that feature their stories, “#MuniShero.”
When you encounter this campaign on your commute, let us know by using the hashtag #MuniShero.

VIDEO: Director of Transportation Report March 19, 2019
By Erica Kato

In this week’s Director’s Report from the SFMTA Board of Directors meeting, Ed Reiskin gives briefs on the below updates. The SFMTA Board of Directors generally meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 1:00 p.m. in Room 400, City Hall. Members of the public can attend or view meetings on SFGovTV2.

Inner Sunset Streetscape Improvement Project
- As the Inner Sunset Streetscape Improvement Project is nearing completion, San Francisco Public Works will begin to repave the streets between Arguello and 9th Avenue, and on 9th Avenue between Irving and Judah streets.
- In order to accommodate the work, the N Judah Line will be shut down for approximately two weeks and require bus substitution between Ocean Beach, and Carl and Cole
- Work will begin on April 13. This is not the final phase. Less impactful landscaping and sidewalk work will continue until August.
Cable Car Gearbox Work

This Weekend: Sunday Streets and TreasureFest
By Schad Dalton

Enjoy the over one-mile of car-free open space in the Excelsior during this weekend's edition of Sunday Streets. Photo: SFMTA Archive
TreasureFest: Easter Brunch
Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Treasure Island
This month's TreasureFest is a brunch and Easter celebration wrapped into one joyous event. Some highlights include at least one special brunch item from each food vendor, the Golden Egg Scavenger Hunt each day with $250-worth of TreasureFest tokens hidden inside, live music and, of course, the terrific views from Treasure Island.
How to Get There on Muni: The 25 Treasure Island Route is true to its name as the Muni route to and from Treasure Island.
Muni Service Notes: There are no planned service changes for this event.
Sunday Streets: Excelsior
Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Excelsior
Over a mile of car-free entertainment and fun comes to the main corridor of the Excelsior from Silver to Geneva Avenue for the second Sunday Streets event of the month. Along with special exhibits, live music and activities, the event will create an open space and neighborhood park in an area with an otherwise limited number thereof. The Persia Triangle Pop-Up Park will give residents a taste of what the proposed, permanent mini park might look like. Activity Hubs at Cotter, France and Persia Triangle will provide visitors of all ages with fun activities throughout the day.
How to Get There on Muni: Riders may take the 8 Bayshore, 14 Mission, 14R Mission Rapid, 29 Sunset, 43 Masonic, 44 O'Shaughnessy, 49 Van Ness/Mission, 52 Excelsior or the 54 Felton routes to near the event.
Muni Service Notes: The 14, 14R, 49 and 52 routes will have reroutes in the area of the event. Ridership may also see an increase which could result in minor delays or some crowding.
Remember that you can take Muni for the entire day for a single $5 fare. The new $5 Day Pass, available on MuniMobile®, is part of Muni’s recent fare changes. The pass is intended to encourage a safe, convenient way to pay your fare and quickly board Muni vehicles, which reduces overall travel time for everyone. The $5 Day Pass is Muni bus, rail and historic streetcars only.
“On Tap” gives you a heads up about the big events in town and what Muni routes and lines will get you to the party. Look for this feature to be posted usually on Thursdays for a look ahead to the weekend. Check out our Weekend Traffic & Transit Advisory for more details.
